A DU, or diplôme universitaire, is taken after the state diploma that grants the right to practise. It is awarded by a given university and covers a precise field: here, pre-implant surgery on one hand, oral and implant surgery on the other.
Two separate diplomas, in two different hospital departments, therefore cover both sides of the same treatment: preparing the bone site, and placing the implant. That combination is why bone grafts are carried out at the practice rather than referred elsewhere.
Attending practitioner means that Dr Azria holds a regular position within a hospital department, in this case in implant surgery at Saint-Antoine Hospital in Paris. It is neither an honorary title nor a passing mention.
A hospital department takes on the situations that private practices are not meant to handle alone: severely reduced bone volume, complex medical backgrounds, revisions. That is a different exposure from a city practice, and it shows in how a difficult case is approached.
